Sarasota County, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is hosting the 27th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 16.

The service will be held at 6 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 Beneva Rd., Sarasota. Sheriff Tom Knight encourages the public to attend.

Major child sex sting nets 31 suspects in Sarasota

SARASOTA, Florida -- Sheriff's investigators say even they were surprised by the number of arrests following a six-day undercover operation targeting child sex predators.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office worked with FDLE, the State Attorney's Office along with the Venice, North Port and Sarasota Police Departments arresting a total of 31 suspects in a sting called "Operation Intercept".

Sarasota, Florida -- Patrons of Sarasota County libraries who have outstanding overdue items will be able to return the items without penalty May 14-19 to any Sarasota County library location.

Items must be returned in person to the circulation desk in order for the transaction to be completed and recorded. Fines will not be waived for items returned in book drops or by mail.

Sheriff's Office scraps SUV seized from metal thief

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight "recycled" a vehicle Friday seized from a prolific offender who was arrested last year during the agency's crackdown on metal thefts.

The sheriff's office says Robert Cain was one of the worst offenders caught during the two Operation Meltdown efforts.

Suzanne Atwell to continue as Mayor

Suzanne Atwell to continue as Mayor

Sarasota, Florida -- The City Commission announced Friday that they have selected Mayor Suzanne Atwell to continue serving as mayor for the next year.

The decision was made at a Statutory Meeting held in the commission chambers at City Hall.

The commission says District 1 City Commissioner Willie Shaw was chosed to serve as Vice Mayor.
