Mote has new leader

Sarasota, Florida -- Mote Marine Laboratory has a new leader. Michael Crosby officially assumed the position of President and CEO this week.

Crosby joined Mote in 2010 as Senior Vice President for Research.

Mote's previous head, Kumar Mahadevan retired, but he will continue to assist the organization that he led for 27 years.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County’s most promising young scientists, engineers, and inventors will be honored with monetary awards, other prizes, and – for two top-ranked high school students – a chance to compete on the international stage at the Regional Science, Engineering and Technology Fair Awards on April 30.  The annual awards event will be held at Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota with presentations starting at 6:00 p.m.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Police Department's detective Maria Llovia was awarded the 2012 Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Metal on Friday, April 13. 

Detective Llovio is a Property Detective and has been serving the citizens of Sarasota since 1998 at the Sarasota Police Department.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota law enforcement is on the lookout for a youth who has accomplished, assisted, or made an outstanding effort as a positive role model for his/her peers.

“Do The Right Thing of Sarasota County, Inc.” is a combined effort of the Sheriff and four Police Chief’s in Sarasota County (City of North Port, City of Sarasota, City of Venice, and Town of Longboat Key).

Sarasota, Florida -- Riverview High School's Marine Science teacher Katrin Rudge is named Teacher of the Year for Sarasota County. 

Katrin Rudge is a marine science teacher and director of the Auqascience Program at Riverview. Rudge's program incorporates science and astronomy. She has taught nearly 12 years in Sarasota County.

Nominations sought for 4th annual Community Superstar Awards

Sarasota, Florida -- Nominations are being accepted for 4th annual Community Superstar Awards. The award identifies outstanding men, women and youth, for their accomplishments and contributions to humanity and to the lives of children and families.

The Women’s Leadership Council, on behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County (BGCSC), has raised more than $70,000 in the past six years to help pay for after-school programs and annual Holiday parties for kids in need. Community Superstars is WLC’s annual signature event.

Sarasota names county building after deputy county administrator

Sarasota names county building after deputy county administrator

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota's Health & Human Services building has a new name.

County commissioners have named the building after its Deputy County Administrator Bill Little in honor of his 44 years of public service.

The building will now be called, William L. Little Health & Human Services Center. The commission also issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 26 ad "Bill Little Day" in Sarasota County.
